Japanese art influences are very apparent in Jesse Lambert’s work, from his preference to working on paper, to his bold outlines; as well as his subject matter: tangled thickets of nature, both ravenous and benign. Although flatly drawn, light plays through branches, leaves, and flowers; color, when used, is dappled and variegated. The repetition of motifs and elements in his work evoke a meditative quality tempered with a psychological edge.
